Privacy Policy
Last updated: 17 October 2026
NEARBY (nearbynow.in) helps people discover and join real-world events nearby. This policy explains what information we collect, why we collect it, who we share it with and the choices you have. If anything is unclear, email events@nearbynow.in.
1. Information we collect
Information you give us
- Account details: your name, email address and password (stored securely by our authentication provider — we never see your password). If you sign in with Google, we receive your name and email address from Google.
- Mobile number: required to pay for events (our payment partner needs it) and used by our team to contact hosts about their events.
- Profile details: gender, date of birth, interests, a short bio and a profile photo — all optional.
- Events you host: title, description, category, place name and meeting point, date and time, number of spots, price and an optional cover photo.
- Activity on NEARBY: requests to join events, the hosts' decisions on them, and messages you send in event group chats.
- Payments: for paid events we keep a record of each order — the amount, the event, whether it was paid or refunded, and reference numbers from our payment partner. Your card, UPI or bank details are entered on Cashfree's secure checkout and are never sent to or stored by NEARBY.
Information collected automatically
- Your location: if you allow it, your browser shares your approximate location so we can show events near you and sort them by distance. This happens in your browser — we don't store your location. You can turn it off at any time in your browser settings.
- Sign-in session: your browser keeps a session token so you stay logged in.
- Ad measurement: we use the Meta Pixel (Meta Platforms, the company behind Facebook and Instagram) to see whether our ads on Instagram and Facebook lead to visits, sign-ups, bookings and ticket purchases, and to show our ads to people likely to be interested. Meta receives which pages you visit and these actions (with the event and ticket price), plus the technical information its cookies collect. We never send Meta your name, email, phone number or location.
- Your cookie choice: Google Analytics and the Meta Pixel are on when you first visit, and we show a short notice about them. If you choose Decline — on that notice, or any time later under — both are switched off on that browser: the Meta Pixel sends nothing, and Google Analytics only receives limited, cookieless signals. Using NEARBY works exactly the same either way.
- Technical data: our hosting provider keeps standard server logs (such as IP address, browser type and time of request) for security and to keep the site running.
2. How we use your information
- To run your account and show you events near you.
- To let you host events, request to join events and chat with other approved participants.
- To review every new event before it goes live, to keep out scams and fake listings.
- To process payments and refunds for paid events.
- To send you service emails — for example, password resets and the outcome of an event you submitted.
- To keep NEARBY safe, investigate misuse and meet our legal obligations.
We don't sell your personal information, and we don't use it for advertising.
3. What other people can see
- Public — anyone, including visitors who aren't logged in: your name, profile photo, bio and interests, and the details of approved events you host (with you shown as the host).
- Approved participants of the same event: who else is going, and the event's group chat.
- Hosts: requests to join their events, and whether each request was paid for.
- Only you and the NEARBY team: your email address, mobile number, gender, date of birth and your payment records.
So please don't put anything in your bio that you wouldn't want to be public.
5. How long we keep it
We keep your information for as long as you have an account. If you ask us to delete your account, we delete or anonymise your personal information, except payment records, which we keep for as long as the law requires (for example, for tax and accounting purposes).
6. Your choices and rights
- You can see and update your profile, mobile number, gender and date of birth at any time in Edit Profile.
- You can turn off location access in your browser.
- You can switch analytics and ad measurement cookies off (or back on) at any time under .
- To get a copy of your information, correct something you can't edit yourself, or delete your account, email events@nearbynow.in from the email address on your account. We'll respond within 30 days.
7. Security
We use encrypted connections (HTTPS), access rules in our database so people can only read what they're allowed to, and keep private details like your mobile number and date of birth separate from your public profile. No system is perfectly secure, so please use a strong, unique password.
8. Children
NEARBY is only for people aged 18 and over. We don't knowingly collect information from anyone under 18 — if you believe someone under 18 has given us their information, email us and we'll delete it.
9. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as NEARBY changes. We'll change the “last updated” date above and, for significant changes, let you know in the app or by email.
10. Contact and grievances
For any question or complaint about your information, contact our grievance officer at events@nearbynow.in. We aim to acknowledge complaints within 48 hours and resolve them within 30 days.
